About Dhanvantri

A respectful digital companion to two of humanity's oldest systems of natural healing — Siddha and Ayurveda.

Ayurveda

आयुर्वेदः

Ayurveda, meaning "the science of life," is one of the world's oldest holistic healing systems, developed in India more than 3,000 years ago. It is built on the concept of balancing the three doshasVata (air/ether), Pitta (fire/water), and Kapha (earth/water) — through diet, lifestyle, and plant-based medicine.

Each plant in Ayurveda is described through its Rasa (taste), Guna (property), Virya (potency), and Vipaka (post-digestive effect), allowing practitioners to choose herbs with great precision.

Siddha

சித்த மருத்துவம்

Siddha medicine is one of the oldest traditional systems originating in Tamil Nadu, South India, attributed to the Siddhars — enlightened sages who mastered the arts of healing, alchemy, and spirituality. It is closely related to Ayurveda but places unique emphasis on minerals, metals, and the connection between the body, mind, and cosmic energy.

Siddha uses plants extensively for their cooling, detoxifying, and rejuvenating properties, and gives special attention to the subtle energies of herbs and their preparation methods.

Why "Dhanvantri"?

Dhanvantri (धन्वन्तरि) is the divine physician in Hindu mythology — an incarnation of Lord Vishnu who emerged from the cosmic ocean carrying the amrita, the nectar of immortality, along with the knowledge of healing plants. The name symbolizes the union of herbal wisdom, healing, and compassion. By naming this app Dhanvantri, we honor that ancient tradition of plant-based healing.
